OVERVIEW

The United States of America is located between Canada and Mexico and borders North Atlantic Ocean and the North Pacific Ocean. It is the world`s third largest country and has a population of 318,349,000 people.
US with 50 states is a liberal democracy with federal structure and President as the head of the government.
One of the largest economies makes US powerful and influential country and it`s busy cities, natural wonders and historic landmarks make it one of the most touristic country in the world.

HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEM

The academic year in USA usually lasts nine months. The terms are divided into 2 periods and have a special course credit system. Credit is a unit that shows a value of a course students take in the university or college. Generally students should complete 120-130 credit hours for undergraduate degree and 30-64 credit hours for graduate degree. Bachelor’s degree lasts 4 academic years and it will take you 2 academic years to finish your Master`s degree.
To improve English skills before starting degree study special programs are offered: Foundation program, Pre-Master`s program and ESL program. These programs usually take from 1 to 4 terms.
Higher Education in USA is a system of various courses and different programs which can fit all kind of students.

STUDENT LIFE

Student life can be amazing in USA with its life standards, modern society and plenty of possibilities for international students.
Universities and colleges always have International Student Service department which not only helps students to solve their problems but provides different kinds of activities such as sport and fitness, bookstores, social programs, etc.
Health departments in the universities` campuses will offer you general medical care to be able to visit a doctor, consult on your health problems and undergo treatment. For international students it`s important to prepare a health insurance before going study abroad.
Social and cultural clubs will attract international students by offering a lot of interesting activities. Music, painting, theatre, politics, and culture – all the range of you interests can be covered within US social and cultural clubs.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

International students intended to study in USA can be given 3 types of visas:

F1 Visa – visa for academic student who are studying English Language programs or general academic courses.
J2 Visa – provided to students who are obtaining trainings (medical, business, etc) or culture exchange students.
M1 Visa – issued to students planning to attend vocational and technical schools.
