Overview

Founded in 1920 on the campus of Yale University in cooperation with Northeastern University, UNH moved to its current West Haven campus in 1960 and opened its Orange campus in January, 2014. The University operates a satellite campus in Tuscany, Italy, and offers programs at several locations throughout Connecticut and in New Mexico. UNH provides its students with a unique combination of a solid liberal arts education and real-world, hands-on career and research opportunities.

The University enrolls approximately 6,400 students, including nearly 1,800 graduate students and more than 4,600 undergraduates – the majority of whom reside in University housing. Through its College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences, Tagliatela College of Engineering, and College of Lifelong & eLearning, UNH offers 75 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. UNH students have access to more than 50 study abroad programs worldwide and its student-athletes compete in 16 varsity sports in the NCAA Division II’s highly competitive Northeast-10 Conference.

Scholarships

Scholarships for International Students Seeking a Bachelor's Degree:

The University of New Haven offers 3 generous merit based scholarships for academically qualified international undergraduate students who wish to pursue their Bachelor degrees at UNH:

1) Presidential Scholarship ($16,000 -$20,000 annually):

A student who has achieved academic success in high school and on the SAT or ACT is considered for this scholarship. 

Minimum Requirements:

  • An overall high school average of “B” or better or a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale at the time of application  and
  • A combined minimum SAT critical reading and math score of 1200 or a composite score of 26 on the ACT.
  • Applicants with a minimum GPA of 3.7 out of 4.0 and a combined minimum SAT critical reading and math score of 1300 will be considered for a scholarship above $16000 per year. 

The Presidential Scholarship is renewable for 4 years, provided a student completes a minimum of 24 credit hours each year, and maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA at UNH.  

2) Distinguished Scholar Awards ($12,000 - $14,000 annually):

Students who have achieved academic success in high school but have not achieved the SAT or ACT requirements for the Freshman Presidential Scholarship are eligible for this award.

Minimum Requirements

  • An overall high school average of “B” or better or a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale at the time of application  and
  • A combined minimum SAT critical reading and math score of 1050 or a composite score of 23 on the ACT.

The Distinguished Scholar Award is renewable for 4 years, provided a student completes a minimum of 24 credit hours each year, and maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA at UNH.

 3) International Student Awards and Charger Awards ($6,000-$10,000 annually):

Minimum Requirements:

  • An overall "C+" or better high school average or a GPA of 2.7 out of 4.0 at the time of application and
  • A minimum IBT TOEFL score of 75 or a minimum IELTS score of 6.0.

Recipients of this scholarship may be awarded up to $10,000 annually, provided they maintain a 3.0 GPA and complete a minimum of 24 credit hours each year at UNH.

Undergraduate Scholarship Application Deadlines:

  • For the Fall semester of each year, the deadline is June 1s
  • For the Spring semester of each year, the deadline is November 1st.

Scholarships for International Students Seeking a Master's Degree:

  • Graduate students seeking Master level degrees at UNH are encouraged to apply for Research or Graduate Assistantships After they have been accepted into their degree program. These RAs or GAs offer a 50% tuition discount per year plus a stipend for a max of 20 hrs/week.
