Overview

Whether you are a first-time visitor to our site, or a returning guest, we are pleased to provide you with information on our university.  Located in central Pennsylvania, along the banks of the Susquehanna River, students come home to The Haven not only for excellent educational opportunities and career preparation, but for so much more.  Within the pages of our website, we hope to give you a better insight on how Lock Haven University can help you make your dreams reality.

Lock Haven University was founded in 1870 as the Central State Normal School.  Over the years the concept of being an exclusively teacher’s college had changed, and so did our name.  In 1926, we became State Teacher’s College at Lock Haven, in 1960 Lock Haven State College, and in 1983, we became Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, after joining the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.  In 1989, Lock Haven University proudly opened its Clearfield campus in Clearfield, PA.

From our humble beginnings with our first hundred students, to more than 5,000 students in 2013, Lock Haven University proudly offers 60 undergraduate programs and certificate programs with 40 minors.  Master’s programs in education and health sciences are also available.

We welcome you to browse our site, get to know us better, and always encourage you to visit!  And as always, we encourage you to Follow Your Passion and Embrace Your Possibilities...Come Home to The Haven.
