Istanbul Medeniyet University is a public university founded on the Anatolian side of Istanbul. It includes 11 faculties, 2-year undergraduate schools and 4 institutes.
The fundamental goal of a university is to enlighten, guide and broaden the horizons of the nation which it serves; thus it plays one of the most dynamic and active roles within society. The principal objective of Istanbul Medeniyet University is to interface with its surrounding community and the nation, continually transforming academic knowledge into communal knowledge and experience. We at IMU understand that communal development, progress and improvement can only be realized through education.
To determine our mission and vision at Istanbul Medeniyet University, we must first ask this guiding question: “What kind of person, what kind of society, what kind of Turkey and, finally, what kind of world would we like to shape?” As a modern academic center, Istanbul Medeniyet University must be a cultural crossroads where the greatest values of the preceding civilizations meet to produce science and technology that will carry today’s world into the future.
As its core administrative policy, IMU accepts and applies freedom of thought and opinion. IMU also supports and respects the scientific and academic freedoms of its staff. We believe that science and knowledge may only flourish in an intellectually open and independent environment.
Istanbul Medeniyet University - along with its research, library, campus, students and its academic and administrative staff - will soon be included among the most distinguished universities in the world. Our goals will be met according to their short, medium or long-term plans, and together these will catapult us into a future where knowledge will be the greatest power.
IMU research will one day be shared and acknowledged in the international academic arena. We are currently building cooperative partnerships with national and foreign institutions. The creation of such partnerships are central to all of our long-range planning.
